Dwarf Regiments of Renown: Elite Mercenaries for Hire in Warhammer Age of Sigmar

Regiments of Renown were added in several patches following the launch of Total War: Warhammer III. Each patch added one unit for each of the TWW3 launch races. The first bunch of Regiments of Renown were added with Update 1.2.0 and the second were added with Update 1.3.0. The Daemons of Chaos don't get any unique Regiments of Renown but can recruit all monogod regiments.

A fourth command figure, the Champion, was introduced in the second edition of Warhammer in January 1985. RR13 and subsequent regiments incorporated a champion. The Spring 1987 flyer shows slotta based champions for the early solid based regiments. Styrofoam trays replaced the vacuum formed ones and a new box sleeve with Regiments of Renown artwork was used. RR13-18 were released in this packaging, along with the re-sculpted version of RR3, RR4, RR7 and RR8.

The range was revised and recoded in late 1986/7, with new packaging and more remodelled units. RRD1-6 were new designs in custom regiment boxes, specific to the regiments. RRD7-12 were repackaged from the older range in clear plastic bisterboxes. A complete set of troopers and command was in each box.

Famous mercenary regiments acquire a certain notoriety because they are remarkably successful, brutal, adventurous, or for some other reason that brings them to the attention of the world. Individual Regiments of Renown are led by famous characters, and indeed are frequently named after these leaders. For example, the notorious Ogre Captain Golgfag, whose Ogre mercenaries have, at one time or another, looted and despoiled most civilised parts Old World... and some not so civilised ones too. A Dogs of War army comprises many different Regiments of Renown assembled and paid for by an ambitious mercenary general.[1]

To get regiments of renown in Warhammer Total War 2, you must first level your lord to a particular character rank; at every rank all the way to rank 30, one regiment will unlock for you. At this point, you can then recruit the newly unlocked regiment of renown by pressing the button to do so next to recruit units. However, with some regiments, you will need to progress to a certain point in the vortex campaign to unlock them; other than that, in mortal empires, all you need to do is rank your lord to the required level.

Once pressed, you should see a small tab open above showing you a list of units similar to the normal unit tab; find the regiment of renown you want on this tab, and click it to acquire them. As a side note, you will also need to own a certain DLC of either the first or second game to access some regiments of renown; the following below is every DLC you will need.

Forces of Fantasy introduced and described the Regiments of Renown, eight noted regiments for a selection of Warhammer races. Between April and August 1984 Citadel released miniatures boxed sets for all of them

One of the core issues with Chaos Dwarfs RH in the modern age is the lack of options compared to later lists. How can I use my classics with their crossbows? What if I want an Iron Daemon? Why would a dwarf not use some form of polearm when they are at such a reach disadvantage?

For crossbows: you could also take dwarfs and equip them with crossbows and heavy armour. You have to live with a hatred for orcs and goblins special rule though. Forgot that chaos dwarfs cannot enlist dwarfs.
